September 29

We had no regular meeting this week, but there are two upcoming events that we want to call to everyone’s attention.

First is the Acton-Boxborough club’s Masquerade Ball. The event is being held at the Holiday Inn, Boxborough, on Saturday, October 22.  A cocktail hour will begin at 6:00, dinner at 7:00 PM, followed by the ball itself.   This year's theme is a Murder Mystery, where everyone will be a part of the game to determine who the culprit is.  It will be a great evening of entertainment and community support. Tickets are $55 each, and 100% of the ticket price is going to benefit local food pantries.

What makes this event special for our club is that we are included in the success of the evening.  If we sell at least six paper tickets (electronic tickets not included), the Acton club will take the value of those tickets and donate that value directly to a food pantry of our choice in our club’s name.  For tickets, see Jacky Foster.

The second event takes place on October 27 and is closely related to the Nashoba Valley club’s latest international project, support for Razia’s Ray of Hope, a school for girls in Afghanistan. The event is the showing of a documentary film, “What Tomorrow Brings,” which tells the story of students and teachers at the school. In addition to teaching reading and writing, it tells how the girls’ lives have changed from the life they were born into to what they can now dream of.

The film will be shown at the Fenn School in Concord, at a cost of $25. A special VIP reception prior to the screening  including a personal conversation with Razia Jan , is also available. Tickets for the film showing and for the VIP reception can be purchased at bit.ly/500_Concord_MA. We hope to see you there.
