Weekly Bulletin – August 21, 2014 Meeting

Paul Jensen, an entrepreneur, best selling author, speaker and radio host from UR Business Network spoke about how his company can help your business connect using the Internet. They offer Search Engine Optimization (SEO), integration and creation of Audio (including podcasts), Video, and Blogs, plus help connecting to social communities including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  Paul grew up in northern Denmark and now lives in Concord. He has worked for BBN and many other firms and now interviews book authors in a program that is called The Writers' Cafe, focusing on business titles.

     On a personal note, his daughter Iben lives in Stow next to the Minute Man Air Field and helped Chris and Laura with planning for their July trip to Denmark. What a small world!

Visioning Event:

The visioning event is scheduled for September 25 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Emma’s Café. Each member has been assigned a buddy to help each other get to the visioning event.

• The next Bolton Repair Café will be on October 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Davis Hall at the First Parish of Bolton Church, which is located at 673 Main Street in Bolton.  We specialize in mendable clothing, lamps, small appliances, bikes, toys, and dull blades.  Enjoy a free drink and a snack.  Have fun and work with a volunteer to repair your broken item.  (If your item needs a part, it will save time if you bring the new part with you.)  For more information, contact Ray or Richard.
• Healthcare Fair on October 20 at NRHS!  It will be a Reality Fair with healthcare providers in attendance.  Contact Jim for more info.
• Medium and small Rotarian at Work T-shirts are now available for $5.  Contact Laura.
• A new rainwater harvesting district project proposal was discussed at the August 6 Board Meeting.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute students have a project in Guatemala installing rain water collection systems to collect rain water that runs off of roofs.  The water must be boiled to drink but it can be used for other things.  Before the rain water collection systems were installed, women and children had to go down the mountain to get polluted water.  There is a possibility of applying for a $30,000 global grant from District.  (The Worcester Rotary Club already has a global grant and cannot apply for a second global grant in the same year.)

International projects:

• We Are One project: Dr. Frantz Compere continues work to transform an empty box truck into a dental clinic with two dental chairs.  The start of operations for the Mobile Dental Clinic is set for this fall!  For more information, read the July 2014 issue of Mary’s “We Are One Newsletter” that will be available on our website soon.  The final report for this project is due in December.
