Our speaker is Dr. V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai, the inventor of email and polymath, who holds four degrees from MIT and is a world-renowned systems scientist. His topic is "Innovation Anytime, Anyplace, by Anybody." His latest invention, CytoSolve®, emerging from his doctoral research at MIT, provides a revolutionary platform for modeling complex biological phenomena, to support the development of multi-combination medicines without animal testing.

What Can One Person Do About Climate Change

Rick Lent from Elder Climate Action will talk about the impact of global warming and what one person can do to make a difference. They will offer a brief overview of the causes of climate change, indicators of its current impact and forecasts of its likely future impact and forecasts of its likely future impact. They will describe the unique perspective and the role seniors can play in mobilizing concern about climate change, and outline seven ways anyone can choose to take action. Elder Climate Action is a nonprofit and non-partisan organization of seniors who are concerned about climate change and the impact it will have on the future. |

Peer Leadership & Depression Prevention

Our speaker will be Wellesley Rotary Club President, Bob Anthony. His topic will be, “Peer Leadership & Depression Prevention: An invitation to implement locally and through a global grant in Nigeria.” Bob is also founder and president of Adolescent Wellness, Inc. The Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley is "passing the hat" for donations to go towards disaster relief. The club will collect funds at each weekly meeting through the end of November. The club's 501(c)3 Endowment Fund will match up to $500 in club member donations. World Polio Day is October 24, and during that entire week, teachers, students, and school health staff in Bolton, Lancaster, and Stow, MA are teaming up with the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley to stop polio. On Purple Pinkie Days, students can contribute a dollar which is enough to vaccinate several children. In return, they can get their pinkies painted purple, just like the kids who are immunized around the world. Polio has been eliminated in all but three countries, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. Rotary International has partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organization to immunize children worldwide. Help us install horse fencing and build a small llama barn for Cultivate Care Farms, a non-profit that offers a farm-based therapy outpatient program in Bolton, MA. All volunteers are welcome to assist between 9 AM and 3 PM that day (you do not need to stay the entire time) and should RSVP with info@nashobarotary.org for more information. The fencing and barn are part of a Rotary grant that the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley is sponsoring for Cultivate Care Farms. We need volunteers to install additional horse panels to enlarge the current fencing configuration and "babysit" tame therapy horses during that time. This work will take about one hour to complete. Building a small llama barn will take about 5-6 hours to complete, and ideally, you should know how to use a hammer. |

Our workshops give students the space and tools to combat social pressures and find coping strategies that work for them. Our plays are based on true stories and performed by people in recovery. |
